Here’s a look at some of the wonderful opportunities near your Laguna Beach home to experience art, to take art classes or to have your art displayed for the public.
Art-A-Fair Fine Art Festival – Call for Artists
The Art-A-Fair Fine Art Festival is scheduled to take place this summer in Laguna Beach from June 27 – August 31. Over 125 artists will have their work on display, and there will be daily art classes and live entertainment during the fair. A restaurant is also available on the grounds for lunch and dinner offering southwestern cuisine with award-winning margaritas. They are currently accepting submissions for the 2014 season. Artists can submit work for consideration on the Jury Day being held on February 9th at the Boys and Girls Club. Mail submissions are also welcome and must be received by January 24th. There is a fee of $40 per piece, with three pieces required per medium for the jury.
Laguna Art Museum- Current Exhibit
The Laguna Art Museum in Laguna Beach boasts a fine collection of California art and offers a rich selection of educational programs for adults and children alike. They currently have a fascinating exhibit on display titled “Expose: Richard Kraft.” It is the fifth installment in a series that encourages emerging artists in the development of new projects. This particular installation fully surrounds the viewer with ten films featuring idyllic scenes of nature next to urban views of Los Angeles, New York and India. It inspires a sense of wonder and should not be missed. The exhibition is scheduled though February 2nd, 2014.
Laguna College of Art and Design
If you’ve ever considered honing your talents and skills in the arts, you have a wonderful resource right here in Laguna Beach. The Laguna College of Art and Design offers classes and curriculums that prepare students for excellence in their chosen fields. Their facilities use the latest technology and their small student-to-teacher class ratios create an intimate educational environment that helps students to succeed. A variety of studies are offered including BFA and MFA programs as well as Portfolio Development for artists. Their classes are focused on a broad range of mediums including fine arts, illustration, game arts, animation, design and digital media and more. LCAD is also home to a campus gallery which is currently displaying an exhibit entitled “The Romance of Germany and Prague,” which showcases the work of students done as a result of a study-abroad program in Germany and the Czech Republic in 2013. The exhibit is on display until February 20th, 2014.
Crystal Cove State Park – Sea Glass Jewelry Making Activity
Crystal Cove State Park is another one of Laguna Beach’s treasures that has been inspiring artists for many years. They are currently offering a free sea glass jewelry making activity every Wednesday from now until January 29th. The class is from 10am to 4pm and takes place in the Education Commons in the Historic District. In the class participants will learn how to turn sea glass into a one-of-a-kind creation.
