Laguna Beach is well known for its independent spirit. It’s apparent everywhere – in our arts scene, in our architectural styles, and yes, even in our coffee shops. If you’ve gotten used to your standard franchise coffee, your taste buds are in for a treat. There are so many locally owned coffee shops in Laguna Beach that are serving up stellar cups of joe. Here’s a rundown of some of our favorites.

The Laguna Coffee Company has been a local favorite for years. That’s partly because they have their own in-house coffee roaster, and partly because they treat everyone like family. Order up a hot or iced cup of your favorite brew or take home a bag of fresh-roasted beans. They also serve food and pastries and host live music on the weekends.

If you’d like a cozy environment with your cup of coffee, The Koffee Klatch is the place. Grab a seat on one of the comfy couches while sipping on your drink. They also have a lunch menu, smoothies and desserts. They welcome dogs on their outdoor patio, so stop in for a break on your walk.

Fair trade and organic specialty coffees are the name of the game at The Grove on Forest. Located in the historic Lumberyard Mall, this is another great place to enjoy with your dog, as they have a pet-friendly patio. Nosh on some fresh-baked breads and pastries or treat yourself to a gourmet breakfast or lunch. Menu items change seasonally.

Touted as “The Best Coffee in Town,” The Orange Inn has been in business since 1931. Known for its California Date Shake, it was also voted one of the 10 Best Roadside Restaurants in the U.S. by Esquire Magazine. Enjoy delicious salads and sandwiches, breakfast burritos, fresh pastries and their famous Orange Inn Smoothie.

Another great place to score a delicious cup of coffee is Zinc Café. Opened in 1988, the restaurant has expanded to other locations throughout Southern California. Inspired by the slow food movement started by Alice Waters, Zinc Café also serves great breakfasts and has a shop full of wonderful specialty goods.

Anastasia Café has been serving up breakfast and lunch in Laguna Beach for more than 20 years. They specialize in California/French cuisine and brew a great cup of joe. When you’re done sipping, shop for designer goods in their boutique next door.

If coffee just isn’t your thing (or you’re looking for something a little different) then head to the Harmony Tea Bar. This great shop believes there’s a tea out there for everyone – even the biggest coffee addicts. They use natural and organic ingredients that have been locally sourced, and love introducing the community to the world of tea.
