It’s that time of year again.  Months of holiday events, parties, gift exchanges, dinners, travelling and more have finally come to an end.  While the holidays have certainly brought loads of good cheer to your home, they have probably also caused things to get a little out of control.  Suddenly it seems like your home is a place of chaos, not the zone of peace and serenity you had hoped for to begin the New Year.  But don’t fret!  With just a little bit of time and effort, you can get your Laguna home looking beautiful and feeling clean and organized.  Here are some great tips to get you started

Store and Organize Holiday Decorations

You may be feeling in a bit of rush to get all those holiday decorations put away, but if you spend a little time storing them properly you’ll reap the rewards next season.  As you take down your decorations, organize them into sturdy boxes, keeping like items together like Christmas tree ornaments.  Clearly label each box with its contents.  Find a corner of your garage, basement or attic to store these boxes and keep them all together.  You’ll save yourself time next holiday season, just when you could use it most!

Pare Down and Donate

The key to keeping your home organized is to get rid of one item for every new item you bring into the house.  Since you probably received many nice gifts over the last few months, now is the perfect time to go through closets, cabinets, drawers and boxes to locate those things you no longer use or are broken.  Before you put away any presents, determine what can be donated to a local charity or tossed.  Donating items you don’t often use (or never use) not only helps to de-clutter your home, but it also helps those who are in need

Create a Cleaning Schedule – and Stick to It!

Alright, now that the holiday decorations are put away and the house has been cleared of clutter, it’s time to tackle those dust bunnies that have accumulated.  Try not to feel overwhelmed at the beginning.  Do a survey of your home to determine what your weekly cleaning tasks should be, and create a schedule.  This could mean that Monday is set aside for laundry, Tuesday is for vacuuming and cleaning the floors, Wednesday is the day to tackle the bathroom, and so on.  Enlist the help of family members and delegate responsibility.  Assign chores to kids such as putting all the dirty laundry in the hamper or putting toys away.  Once you’ve established a cleaning rhythm, things are less likely to get out of control during the year and you’ll reap the benefits of having a tidy home

Taking the time to get your home in order at the beginning of the year is a gift that you give yourself.  Not only will it bring you peace of mind, it will free up time for you to pursue other interests, such as joining a book club or even indulging in a monthly massage.  After all – you deserve it!
