Dana Point luxury homes and estates are one of the best means for living well while enjoying a property that will appreciate in value. The city of Dana Point is located in the southern portion of Orange County, CA. The place is a popular destination for surfers and tourists from around the world. It takes its name from the headland area of Dana Point which was named after Richard Henry Dana who included a description of the site in his famed travel journal, “Two Years Before the Mast.” While Dana tagged the anchorage here as poor, there is now a dredged harbor and marina that contains a replica of “The Pilgrim,” the ship Dana sailed on. It is a classroom for the Ocean Institute and is a registered historical landmark

In 1926, the Chandler family that owned the LA Times and General Sherman who was the Director of the Pacific Railway Corporation created the Dana Point Syndicate to develop real estate in the area. Investors were invited to join them in purchasing 1,388 acres in the vicinity. In the initial phase, 35 homes and several commercial structures were built. Plans called for tree lined streets, utilities, water mains, and sewer lines. Most of the historic structures that remain from this area are in the Lantern Village neighborhood
