The home that Julie Andrews purchased with her husband in 1999 has been put up for sale.  The asking price for the Brentwood property is $2.649 million.  The title records on file for the home indicated the couple purchased the house for $1,365,000.  The actress is probably best known for her starring roles in “Mary Poppins” and in “The Sound of Music”, but her career included diverse roles in film as well as work in television, on stage, in concerts, and through recordings.  Her husband was a highly regarded director of such classics as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” along with the Pink Panther series

The home is located in a gated section of the exclusive Brentwood neighborhood that is home to many celebrities who are attracted to the hilly area for the scenic views it offers within a bucolic setting of chaparral covered hillsides. Brentwoodis also conveniently located near many of the major studios and has several high end shopping areas.  The property itself covers a quarter of an acres and features landscaping by Nancy Power, an acclaimed garden creator who has designed several sumptuous gardens in the region

The house itself is 2574 square feet in size.  It contains 4 bedrooms and 3 baths and was originally built in 1948.  The lot is walled and gated for privacy which makes it a lure for other potential celebrity buyers.  The property also contains a pool and a spa.  Another attractive feature is an artist studio with a separate entrance from the main house

Reports are that the home is already in escrow less than a month after its initial listing.  The quick sale may be due to the home’s many attractive features.  There is a formal dining room with overhead cathedral ceiling that has glass walls that look out onto the lush landscaping.  The living room has French Doors that open out to the aforementioned garden, and the family room is perfect for entertainment

Like many celebrity properties, the sale of Julie Andrews home was done quite inconspicuously.  Only a single photo of the property was made available with the listing.  While agents may tout the affiliation of the property to the actress to potential buyers, the public is seldom made aware that such residences are on the market.  The maps to stars’ homes that are widely hawked in Hollywood are often hopelessly outdated since these properties often change hands without awareness such sales have even taken place

Julie Andrews has long been a very cosmopolitan person who has lived where her work takes her.  Recently that has meant spending considerable time in her birthplace,England where she performed a series of concerts at the O2 Arena accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.  Her most recent works in film have been in animation where she voiced roles for “Shrek Forever After” and “Despicable Me.”  While there are no indications she plans for now to purchase another home in the Los Angeles region, she will be present in the area for award ceremonies as well as in connection to her work in films and in sound recording
