Leonardo DiCaprio’s Malibu Home for Rent
Malibu Colony, just 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles and home to Hollywood A-list celebrities that include the likes of Tom Hanks, Howie Mandell, Jeff Bridges, Cicely Tyson, Steven Spielberg and Rachel Ward, just to mention a few, has a long history of being a private enclave. Sometimes, celebrity homes become available for those of us that want to experience the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Leonardo DiCaprio’s home, sitting on nearly half an acre, is available to rent at the rate of $75,000 with a long-term lease or $115,000 for shorter terms
The Cape Cod-style home has four bedrooms, a beachfront patio and glass-enclosed dining room. A detached guesthouse boasts an additional two bedrooms and a detached loft with a media room, office and gym that has its own bedroom: seven bedrooms in all. DiCaprio owns another Malibu home and a penthouse in Manhattan, New York’s Battery Park
The Colony became popular among the Hollywood elite when the remote private area, owned by a widow names May Rindge, invited a few of the well-heeled celebrities to erect vacations homes there to tide her over during financial difficulties. Her arrangement was that they would rent, not own, the land. A cluster of stars took up residence and by the late 1930s, so she decided to allow them to purchase the land. Celebrities have populated the area ever since
The back yards of the beachfront homes face the Pacific Coast Highway, creating a solid wall to keep out prying eyes. These houses face the ocean just steps off the beach. The Colony’s entrance, gated with guards, keeps out stargazers, but the beach itself is public access at low tide. Privacy is at a premium, so beach goers are encouraged to respect the homeowners and their property.
