There are just over 3,000 students enrolled in the public school system in Laguna Beach, and enrollment for each grade is approximately 250 students.
Laguna Beach Unified prides itself on being one of the top districts not only in Orange County, but also in the state of California. Emphasis is placed on preparing students to become lifelong learners and producers in a competitive and interconnected world, and nearly 95 percent of students go on to attend colleges and universities. Laguna Beach Unified schools rate 10 out of 10 on GreatSchools and are often recognized with the California Distinguished Schools Award and the California Gold Ribbon Schools Award.
There are many ways for parents to get involved with schools in Laguna Beach. Each of the four public schools has an active PTA where parents can join with teachers, administrators and the community to support providing a quality public education for all students. Each of the local PTA chapters is connected to the state and national PTA associations for further support.
Other volunteer opportunities for parents include SchoolPower in Laguna Beach, the oldest non-profit education foundation in Orange County. This organization has been providing additional funds for Laguna Beach’s public schools since 1981. Another notable program is Coffee Break, a Laguna Beach Parent Education Speaker Series that organizes monthly talks or panels to present topics that are relevant to local parents.
In addition to the public schools outlined above, the Laguna Beach Community Learning Center is an alternative school founded in 1983 and located on the Top of the World Elementary School campus. The school serves a total of 40 students in grades 1 – 4. There are two full-time teachers and one full-time instructional aide, and parents are expected to volunteer six hours per month for each child in the school. The Community Learning Center fulfills requirements by the LBUSD and also includes community service, character development, social awareness, conflict resolution and more.
Private Schools in Laguna Beach
In addition to the four public schools, there are three private schools that serve students living in Laguna Beach. They include:
- Anneliese Schools (PK – 6) – Anneliese Schools were founded in 1968 and provide an alternative educational experience focused on the idea that all children have special talents and that their education should help them realize their highest potential.
- Montessori School of Laguna Beach (PK – K) – the Montessori School of Laguna Beach was founded in 1975 and follows the traditional Montessori teaching methods.
- Catherine of Siena Parish School (PK – 8) – St. Catherine’s is a Catholic school founded over 50 years ago in the tradition of the Benedictines.
